Chapter 1: The Trinity and the Second Coming

Chapter 1: The Trinity and the Second Coming

It might seem strange to put this chapter at the beginning of a book, but sensible if it helps the reader gain concepts before being introduced to them, especially when it is to the WAY of thinking, and most readers would be familiar with religion..

The Philosophers’ stone is, I believe, the human mind, not any mind but an ‘inquiring’ mind, such as you the reader, and you may be on the way to becoming a genius. The mind is born of the architecture of the brain and the mind also forms the brain and this leads to the seventh, eighth and ninth senses. Just as quantum mechanics was set up to investigate the particle properties of light, in the same way this book is, hopefully, a step to higher understanding by looking at a more general form of mathematics that can be applied to human problems, and those problems stem from ignoring the Second Law of Life.

This General Mathematics has been the basis of every innovation and is not new, but I have tried to formalize it, and many times I have wondered whether it was ‘real’ and ‘true’, but these concepts are of course, half-truths and it came down to having to change my mind in the same way that we now ‘accept’ quantum mechanics, and that is by using creativity to ‘balance’ two ‘views’.

We have looked at a few problems and had to introduce a Logic of the Half-truth to navigate the lack of clarity in our thinking and found that the way of reintroducing effective evolution by Survival of the Best was practical, but, governments being what they are, I have suggested an additional method that uses the internet and an exclusive club of people that want to live ‘forever’ and restart evolution. Truly, the ultimate altruism, and time will tell! But, of course, you will now recognize that both those words are half-truths!

I am a generalist and refuse to read non-factual books, and this turned out to be a way to stimulate the mind to increase creativity, but either the brain can create easily, or someone unknown to me helped in some way to write this book, I cannot tell at this time. Perhaps we are glimpsing God, perhaps our restarting evolution will give us ‘god-like’ powers.

postscript: I started out saying that there was no order in the presentation, but it just seemed to ‘fall out’. But as my creativity and knowledge increased, the form of presentation changed, as would be expected, but considering how fundamental some of this book is, the presentation changed dramatically as things fell into place. In fact, these changes determined that I should put the order of writing into the Table of Contents and a second reading of the postscripts will show how simple things are, and as I said about navigating the brain, any map is better than none.

I now find that a ‘concise’ story has emerged from the book and that it is a method of re-starting evolution and controlling our population. As mentioned before, humanity is a pest that is out of control. One can perhaps see the Hand of God, or perhaps I should postulate a tenth sense that over-arches all of life, and is common to everything. Patterns, of some type that we can’t at present envisage may be widespread and interact over the minds of animals over the whole world. This would align with the concept of Gaia, and most of the animals from fish and higher probably should exhibit consciousness and creativity to a degree depending on their brain development.

Postscript: Is this book useful? To me personally, yes. I can now ‘understand’ the Theory of Relativity, the Pauli Exclusion Principle, Quantum Mechanics, God’s place in creation, why the mumbo jumbo of religions and the lure of football clubs, the three Laws of Life that defines our life on Eart, our ongoing life and religion and family, the interdependence of the Laws, where creativity comes from, how memories are laid down, Survival of the Best leading to the re-emergence of a ‘useful’ evolution through government or the Forever Club, General Mathematics, the Logic of half truths and much more, because my mind has changed, and of course for better or worse is a half-truth!

I say ‘understand’ to the point that these concepts have better infiltrated my mind and have allowed me to function ‘better’ in modern society. That is what life is all about and any idea that these concepts are real or true must be false because they are half-truths.

Finally, a prediction is required and I shall use the Bible as an example. Religions are trying to make life better for people, and this book is, perhaps, a way for people, organizations and religions to move into the future. Populations are out of control and I am reminded of Sodom and Gomorrah. Perhaps the componentization of the body and mind has huge potential for growth when the second law is applied to it, in a stringent way, through seeking anti ageing strategies. Perhaps it was my general education and luck that brought this book about. Hopefully, this book is useful to others in the same way that I have used it, which is to fit people’s knowledge and strength of mind into modern life.

postscript: It is interesting to consider what this book is not! It predominantly does not contain any ideas on morality and strength of character, apart from strength of mind. This book aligns with religious teaching in that it finds that there is a place for God, and says that God would have to be a God of Truth, which is what religions are stating. Further, our minds are built on truth, and so the teaching that we are made in God’s image now fits comfortably into my mind (whereas before, it certainly did not!).

Similarly, whilst religions contain food laws and advice, this book updates them to the modern times and provides a clearer picture. Control of the population is something that religions will have to eventually make decisions upon, and this book makes suggestions, and as stated at the beginning, the aim of the book is to provide a statement where everyone can agree, and the problems of the modern world, such as overpopulation, obesity epidemics, cancer etc can be attacked sensibly. Hopefully this book might be a starting point.

postscript: The Philosophers’ stone is not a stone and it is not a wish-list, it is a pipe-dream where the mind uses a mystical substance (Mathematics of the Mind) in a mechanical way to dream thoughts that are a higher ‘reality’. That is what this book is, a pipe-dream where there is one people, with no tensions, and everyone is happy, but that might be the end of evolution, and we might need a ‘core of people’ to forge ahead. The Forever Club might just be the way, where the world’s best and brightest offer themselves genetically. This could be an incentive to achievement as are knighthoods, orders of merit and other recognitions. The concept of a ‘living treasure’ then becomes, in the case of men, a literal truism!

postscript: This book started with the idea that a partial road-map into the brain is better than no road-map at all and has ended with a possible road-map for humanity into the future that started at first principles and grew in a natural way. This growth is due to the First Law, which applies to not only organisms, but also to organizations. I now realize the increasing importance of religious teaching, which is part of the Third Law and whilst it started as a creation myth, in modern society, as populations have grown, religious teaching is becoming more and more important.

At the same time, religions have not significantly changed with the times and their teachings are often at odds with modern life. This book endeavours to set up attractors so that it is easier to see the bigger picture and navigate through the issues whilst keeping the context in mind. The Mathematics of the Mind is a mathematics of concepts and contexts (with the passage of time), and it is pleasing that the teachings of religion and God fit somewhat nicely into the three Laws of Life. Perhaps these fundamental laws have intuitively come down to us in religious teaching as God the Father (first law), the Son (third Law) and the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost (second Law). I have never really absorbed the concept of the Holy Spirit, and in this context (the three laws), it becomes clear to my mind, regardless of what the Church says about it.

It should be noted that the Church felt the need to introduce the concept of the Holy Spirit millennia ago, so what is it? ‘The term Holy Spirit appears at least 90 times in the, New Testament, but only 3 times in the Old Testament’. (Wikipedia, Holy Spirit Christianity, Biblical references) ‘In Christian theology Holy Spirit is believed to perform specific divine functions in the life of the Christian or the Church. The action of the Holy Spirit is seen as an essential part of the bringing of the person to the Christian Faith. The new believer is “born again of the Spirit”. The Holy Spirit enables Christian life by dwelling in the individual believers and enables them to live a righteous and faithful life.” (Wikipedia, Holy Spirit Christianity, Mainstream doctrines, God the Holy Spirit)

This string of quotations is presumably an attempt to categorize the Holy Spirit in words that have been used in a number of sources. Clearly, the presenter of that particular page in Wikipedia is struggling for a description and I sympathize because they mean little to me. I urge the reader to consider the quotation, because I want you to ‘find’ the Holy Spirit. There is no way around the pun, so please bear with me and consider that the Holy Spirit has literally been lost.

Clearly the Second Law and the Holy Spirit do not align very well, but there do tend to be similarities in form, but I do not want to venture very far with this. However, that said, considering that over two thousand years ago, life was simpler and the continuance of life could be considered spiritual. This is perhaps better than as a white dove at Jesus’ baptism, so, I will take it that they align and will leave the unraveling to those best qualified.

It could be said that organizations obey the three laws and in this regard, organizations speak of ‘organic’ growth because they act as living beings. The same could be said about the human races, as races. So, in restarting evolution, both the human races and the Churches throughout the world obey these laws, given that they are approximate and there will be competition through the organizations, and there will be Churches that survive because they give people what people need, as a business only survives if it services a need.

We have the ability to change our ‘looks’ by deciding what we want to look like, and that fact puts to rest the idea of ‘inferior races’, because we can become the race that we prefer, and a race that is best suited to the environment in which we live. It is our choice through the Forever Club or other methods suggested.

My friend Terry said ‘It so happens I know quite a bit about the Holy Trinity ….. caused me a big headache and made it necessary to leave the Presbyterian Church …. It is based on the ridiculous notion that the God, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one entity …. this can easily be refuted by studying the Bible, but the Tykes and the C of E stick with it!’

According to the interpretation that the Trinity and the Laws of Life are one and the same, as above, the Church is correct because as I have shown, previously, the three Laws of Life are interrelated and we can say that ‘God, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one entity’, and as I have said before, a primary function of the mind is to incorporate the world around the body smoothly into its consciousness, and in this case, the realization that there is a mathematical basis, makes the Church’s assertion true, and Terry’s problem is resolved.

postscript: The fact that important aspects of Religion are true, according the Mathematics of the Mind, causes a re-thinking of the status quo of Religion and Science. As far as I know, there was little conflict between Religion and Science until science started to become more developed and its findings meant a change to the thinking of the Church. It is apparent that the Church is set in its ways and is reluctant to change to any large degree, and it doesn’t need to change. Or, does it.

Viewing the teachings of the Church above, it is apparent that they are true, but the lack of a scientific basis has lead to ‘unusual’ and difficult concepts that need to be accepted but do not align with common sense, as Terry found. The success of the Church has been derived, in large part, by the necessity of a tribal creation myth being expanded as other cultures intensified with population growth. But there was no reason to change, until now, when population has become excessive.

The Church has been very reluctant to accept change in viewpoint, such as the sun being at the centre of the solar system and the Theory of Evolution. I imagine that as Religion and Science were unrelated, the Church was fearful of change that would undermine its teachings that were based on ‘shaky’ ground, such as in Terry’s problem. ‘Shaky’, only because so much had been forgotten.

It turns out that the Church now has a solid social basis and should now accept Science because Religion and Science are bound together through the Mathematics of the Mind. The two can now, without fear move to solve the problems of the moment, which is population and modern diseases. This has been considered previously, over-population leads to squalor, less learning and lower IQ, less communication (internet and ‘real’ communication, not general chatter!), lower quality of life leading to lower IQ and so on.

In terms of business, some religions are looking for quantity of ‘souls’ to save, others quality. Obviously, the religions should get together with scientists to plan, as religions are now (recognized as) part of the scientific community and vice versa. From above, it is apparent that re-starting evolution will occur through the ‘quality’ part of religion because of the costs associated with it.

Postscript: I have decided to entitle this book “The Philosophers’ Stone and the Second Coming” because it, hopefully, brings together the secular and the religious into one entity. It was originally called the “Philosophers’ Stone” because the book started with the Philosophers’ stone and ended with being a step towards amalgamation of religion, social sciences, science etc.

The Old Testament was a history involving God, the making of the world and concern with families, the New Testament was taking the family love and extending it to the wider community, whilst this book is concerned with spreading love to all the people of the world, the state of the physical world and the animals in it, by using population controls.

This breakdown is similar to the First Law with God and creation myths the Third Law involving family love and relations with the wider community, and this book is a step to applying the Second Law of the continuance of life to the whole world, bearing in mind that they are all inter-related, which means inter-relationships such as that Christian principles apply to business principles through honesty etc, we are closest to God in a garden, Christian principles to the state of mind and so on.

postscript: From above, we have some attractors, such as the Trinity, the three Laws of Life, the inter-relationship of each, Terry’s problem of reconciling the inter-relationship, the Mathematics of the Mind, the Logic of Half-truths etc. As I said above, the Mathematics of the Mind is the mathematics of concepts, context and time passing. By applying my mind to these attractors and making a prediction and using the Bible, a strange thing happens, which in hindsight is obvious and I have said it on previous occasions, but you, the reader can try it yourself. It will only work once and it is your mental relationship with the world changing! It will work once because your mind will be changed and remain changed even as the knowledge weakens and becomes subconscious, but not forgotten.

The Bible was written before mathematics was invented, but the scholars were very intelligent people operating over thousands of years and they used the Mathematics of the Mind and the Logic of the Half-truth by the time of the writing of the Old Testament (probably intuitively, because it is not difficult, especially as mathematics had not been invented!). These scholars created Terry’s dilemma by simplifying God to make the Bible easier to understand at the time of writing. They took the concept of a All-embracing God and divided Him into contexts that our mind could comprehend. This is the reason that the Trinity matches the three Laws of Life, as has been mentioned above.

There was no Trinity before the New Testament, only God and the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit was mentioned in the Old Testament. It could be said that God sent his Son and that ‘created’ the third Law out of the creation myths, and I have read that the Gospels were written by people who did not know Jesus personally, but that Jesus was ‘necessary’ and his time had come. Perhaps it is time for the Holy Spirit to re-emerge in a modern context and show the way into the future? The Church used the same approach as presented in this book, but perhaps they did not realize that time passed and would make Terry’s dilemma. As I mentioned previously, the problems of modern life were not recognized and the second Law related to the mind and the physical environment (Holy Spirit), the third Law is the mind relating to God and other people (the Son) and the first Law is the Creator.

If the above quotation on the Holy Spirit, reproduced below, is read now, it makes sense, and we can amalgamate it into our mind and beliefs. Try it!

‘In Christian theology Holy Spirit is believed to perform specific divine functions in the life of the Christian or the Church.

To belabor the point, ‘The Holy Spirit enables Christian life by dwelling in the individual believers and enables them to live a righteous and faithful lifemeans to me that the mind uses the religious teachings (third Law) to live in the world (second Law) according to the religious teachings (third Law). The second Law is the continuance of life through the state of mind, nutrition and exercise which were not appreciated at that time and still are not in modern times. To belabor another point, now that religion is recognized to be part of all learning, there is no reason that previous policy should not be overturned and science, technology, social sciences etc should not be used to update the Bible and take control of population and restart evolution. Truly, that would require a ‘Second Coming’! But, is it necessary to change the Bible? Will the application of science change the Bible? If I am correct there will be NO change! Read on!

postscript: ‘The sacredness of the Holy Spirit is affirmed in all three Synoptic Gospels which proclaim blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as the unforgivable sin.’ (Wikipedia, Holy Spirit (Christianity) This makes sense, in that it is the unforgivable sin to destroy the environment around you, that your very life depends on and that is precisely what has happened to our world by the loss of the Holy Spirit. By fitting the template of the Mathematics of the Mind to the Bible, it is apparent what the Holy Spirit was and still is!

So, why was the Holy Spirit ‘lost’? I would guess that as populations grew, the ‘respect’ that the hunter/gatherers had for ‘farming’ the natural environment to maintain the output around the centre of their influence eroded as they moved into farming and the selfishness of ownership became apparent. Maintaining the diversity of food plants would be crucial whilst harvesting regularly, but the Tragedy of the Common occurred as groups shared resources in ‘competition’ with each other.

As sharing was lost, and, at the same time that control of resources by rulers was increased, the Churches may have intentionally downplayed the role of the Holy Spirit. So, was a huge conspiracy hatched by rulers and Churches to allow ownership by the few, or was the concept of the Holy Spirit so simple that it was not described in the Scriptures and its meaning forgotten? Perhaps a little of both, considering the amount of ‘pruning’ that had to be done to match the second Law to the biblical Holy Spirit, but considering the importance of the second Law in the modern world, I hope that the Churches join with the environment movement, and especially help to reduce the population.

We could consider that the Bible embodies the world of several thousand years ago and is bathed in symmetry, as it was designed to be, but the first Law contains three mathematical/logical parts and one of them is that time passes. Thus the Bible has progressively become at odds with the world as time passed because it was not being updated by the community that it should have been part of, but became unchanging and by so doing, may have brought on a world crisis.

The Mathematics of the Mind is based on Organizational Theory that applies to organizations, such as the churches and involves the carrot and stick. So, the above is the carrot, but where is the stick! The Church was started by an underground ‘club’ of interested members and grew and grew till today. The Forever Club (or perhaps the Holy Spirit Club) is similar, and might make a very effective stick!

The issues are, that we have a mathematics of concepts for our particular type of mind that can carry us into the future, and the future is clear. This book is a road-map to a future that we have to decide upon, and it can only be to limit population so that we can feed people according to their genes, evolve people that are attractive in looks, slim through exercise, attractive in thought through religion, that can live harmoniously together, be the colour and shape that each generation works towards, be content within themselves and live a long happy life and carry the lineage into a glorious future.

postscript: That is a lovely concept, but it will only work if we are one people, and on a personal note, it puts an answer to the question of multi-culturalism (for me). The above indicates that multi-culturism is in the immigrants’ interest, but not the wider community and won’t work in the long-run and politicians are taking the easy way out, perhaps as the Churches have done in the face of ownership. So, to my mind, Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party was correct and John Howard was simply looking for votes for re-election. On the other hand, readers can make up their own minds by considering the Jews and Gypsies, which have pursued a multi-cultural lifestyle for many years

From above, we proved theoretically that religion stood ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with the sciences and that one third of the original teachings of the Bible has been ‘lost’. As a practical example of this theoretical derivation, I present this book as an updated ‘version’ of the Holy Spirit and show how it can be fitted into religion and the Bible without fuss or bother. In fact, it is a ‘total addition’ because the previous references were effectively ‘forgotten’, so how can it cause problems? The exception ‘proves’ the rule in that the dietary laws of religions, especially with regard to animals, needs reappraisal in a modern light.

I said that you would ‘find’ the Holy Spirit and you did in the context of the Bible, and now you have ‘found’ the Holy Spirit in its modern context. That has become the aim of this book, and I leave it up to others to work out what to do with it. Remember that ‘blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as the unforgivable sin’ and sins of omission are just as bad as sins of commission, and this book has been ‘laid at your door’! There is no walking away, this could be Armageddon through Global Warming!

The question of who wrote this book, and I stress that this book is the Afterword and the rest is both evidence and necessary to generate my understanding, as it will generate yours, is indeterminate because, as I recall my religious instruction, perhaps, ‘I am one with God’, after all, from above, we proved that we are ‘made in God’s image’.

In our ‘reality’ God is a half-truth and if you believe in God, God is the God of Truth. If you don’t, the three Laws of Life are there and these two views on the subject fit with our minds and it is up to the individual, and his upbringing to decide.

postscript: The following is a quotation that I found that expresses some of the above in a practical sense, and shows that a wider picture of religion is desirable. ‘Can you convince people to exercise and eat more fruits and vegetables by telling them it’s what God wants? An intervention at Middle Tennessee State University is doing exactly that, with excellent results. The intervention asks people to consider how self-care and health are important values in their religion. For example, Christians may be asked to reflect on passages from the Bible such as “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat” (Proverbs 23:20 NIV) and “Let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God” (2 Corinthians 7:1 NIV). They are asked to reflect on the behaviours in their lives – such as eating junk food or not exercising – that are inconsistent with their professed faith and values. When they identified a disconnect between their faith and their actions, they are encouraged to create an action plan for changing that behaviour. Believing that losing weight and exercising is what good Christians do is powerful social proof.” (The Willpower Instinct, Kelly McGonigal, p 197)
